Govt of India has a scheme specially for the girl child, Balika Samridhi Yojana. In this scheme, the govt of India will financially assist the girl child from birth to higher education. This scheme was launched in 1997 by GOI. The girls who are born into BPL families will receive financial aid from GOI.
As we all know, there are many schemes run by GOI for the benefit of girls but the Balika Samridhi Yojana focuses on the future of the girls and their standard of living. We are going to discuss in detail the Balika Samridhi Yojana below.

What is Balika Samriddhi Yojana?

The Balika Samridhi Yojana provides money to the parents of the girl child for education and other well-being. Only families with lower incomes will receive the money for the girl child.

Objective of Balika Samridhi Yojana

The main objective of the Balika Samridhi Yojana, when it was launched by the GOI, was to change the perspective of the people towards the girl child as earlier there is boy to girl ratio had a lot of differences and to save the girl child, many schemes were launched by Indian Govt. Balika Samridhi Yojana is one of the schemes that will offer money for education so that parents do not feel burdened with their girl child.

It encourages the girl child’s education. The girl children in the schools are provided with scholarships from class 1 to Class 12. If a girl is educated, she can survive on her own and find a way to earn. Balika Samridhi Yojana is girl empowerment from class 1.

How much profit do you get?

The family where the girl child is born is provided with a gift of Rs 500 during the birth. After that, when the girl starts going to school, the GOI will provide a yearly scholarship to the girl child under the Balika Samridhi Yojana. 

  • For Grades 1 to 3 – Rs 300 per annum will be provided
  • For Grade 4 – Rs 500 per annum will be provided
  • For Grade 5 – Rs 600 per annum will be provided
  • For Grades 6 & 7 – Rs 700 per annum will be provided
  • For Grade 8 – Rs 800 per annum will be provided
  • For Grades 9 & 10 – Rs 1000 per annum will be provided

Who can avail of the benefits

The families with girl child that comes under BPL ration card. The common beneficiaries of the Balika Samridhi Yojana are rural people, vendors, garbage collectors, etc. The birth of the girl child should be after August 15, 1997. If a fairly has more than 2 girls, then only two girls will get the benefit of Balika Samridhi Yojana.

Eligibility For Balika Samridhi Yojana 

  1. The girl’s child should have her bank account.
  2. The GOI will deposit the money in the girl’s bank account in the terms of NSC or PPF.
  3. The parents can save the money from the Balika Samridhi Yojana for the Bhagyashree Balika Kalyan Bima Yojana.
  4. The family can use the Balika Samridhi Yojana money to purchase uniforms, books, etc.
  5. The amount you have not used will remain in the bank account and the girl child will get the inserts on it.
  6. The girl child can withdraw all the money with interest when she becomes 18 years old, she has to submit an unmarried certificate in the bank account.

How to apply for Balika Samridhi Yojana?

The Balika Samridhi Yojana scheme is run by the ICDS dept, it is Integrated Child Development Services. You can meet them at the Anganwadi centers in rural areas and the officials are available at health centers in urban areas. The officials will give you a form, fill out the form, and submit the form along with the required documents to their offices. 

Documents Required For Balika Samriddhi Yojana

  • You need the birth certificate of the girl child
  • Identity proof of parents such as PAN card, Passport, voter ID, Aadhar Card, Bank Account Passbook, etc. is needed.
